Hi, I’m Matthew Benavidez, LMFT and have nearly 10 years of professional work experience. I help couples and individuals strengthen connection, heal from painful experiences, and move forward with clarity. My work blends the Gottman Method—a research-based approach to relationships—with Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for trauma, anxiety, and stuck stress responses.

With Gottman, we start with a structured assessment to understand your patterns and strengths. From there, we build skills for effective communication, conflict repair, trust, intimacy, and shared meaning. Whether you’re navigating frequent arguments, betrayal recovery, parenting stress, or just feeling disconnected, I’ll give you clear tools you can practice right away.

ART is a gentle, highly focused therapy that uses eye movements and guided imagery to help your brain re-store distressing memories so they no longer trigger the same reactions. Many clients appreciate that ART does not require recounting every detail, and it can bring relief efficiently (results vary). I also integrate ART into couples work when trauma or anxiety is affecting the relationship.

Clients describe my style as warm, direct, culturally and faith-aware, and deeply practical. If you’re ready for a clear plan and evidence-based methods that respect your values, I’d be honored to work with you.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Matt has been the most amazing therapist. He really listens to what you have to say and helps to get talking about things that might be hard to get out. He’s very reassuring and always makes you feel like you have someone in your corner no matter what you’re dealing with. I love how he chooses his words carefully so that you know he understands and is right there working through it with you.

Matthew is probably the best therapist I’ve ever had. He really listens and WANTS to help you. He has a very kind nature and is so supportive and knowledgeable. He has an innate way of getting you to open up and talk about what’s really bothering you while also keeping the mood light and the conversation flowing. One thing that I love is how he makes you feel like he’s right there with you going through the problems along side you and helping you get to a solution. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone!

Matthew is awesome. I’ve tried multiple therapists in the past and I’ve not always been able to connect with them. Matthew is very easy to talk to, and while I haven’t been with him for too long yet, I feel like that’s a good place to start and I am looking forward to future sessions.

Matthew is a great therapist! He gives awesome advice when I come to him with my life problems. I’ve always felt pretty comfortable telling him my unfiltered thoughts because he’s good at not passing judgment, but rather asking questions to better understand why I have those thoughts. He likes to crack jokes and can be sarcastic at times (which works for me), but overall he’s very respectful of how I’m feeling even when I’m crying like a baby or word vomiting my scattered thoughts and not making any sense! 10/10 in general!

Reviewed June 2023

Matt has been extremely helpful in helping me understand myself better. He has helped me with gaining structure in my life and getting to the root of my concerns. Couldn’t recommend him more for anyone needing help. 10/10

I've talked with my therapist Matthew Benavidez twice now. Through talking with him I've discovered a few reasons why I struggle to connect with my daughter, and significant other. I am beginning to understand I am afraid of being vulnerable, and never truly understood the difference between sympathy and empathy. I am incredibly grateful for Better Help, and more importantly such a knowledgeable, and compassionate therapist to help me navigate being the best possible version of myself! After talking with my therapist yesterday, I am starting to rebuild my relationship with my daughter in a empathetic, and compassionate way. My hope is for this to transcend to all aspects of my life.
