A FORWARD-THINKING, EXPERIENCED THERAPIST
Licensed Mental Health Therapist with 35 years of in-patient and out-patient clinical experience working with adults, adolescents, children, and families. Specializes in working with relationships, complex trauma (childhood trauma within families), PTSD, anxiety, stress disorders, addiction recovery, blended family issues, extended family issues, and spiritual crisis.
I lived and worked in Seattle for 28 years and in 2016 moved to southern Utah for the landscapes and the red rocks I love. I have a deep respect for personal struggles. I also have great confidence in the therapeutic process based on the transformations I've witnessed in the lives of the men, women, and young people with whom I've been privileged to work.
Many of my clients are high-functioning, corporate professionals, first responders, healthcare professionals, therapists themselves, or people who have been in therapy before but seek a more integrative approach. I also work with people new to therapy who are seeking to build a more solid foundation for their emotional health. The heart of what I do is create the space for clients to address the issues that are keeping them from moving forward in life.
My style is active and direct. I'm trained in trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches. I'm a Jungian and experiential therapist and use Rational Emotive and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapies. I've taught the MBSR, Jon Kabat-Zinn's 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' course and integrate elements as it can be extremely effective in working with anxiety as well as targeting the very roots of addictive behaviors.
As a therapist I draw not only on my education, but also on my life experiences as a woman, a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother. I am by nature interested in the world around me and continue to educate myself both formally and informally. In 1993, I began to practice Vipassana Meditation, a simple form of sitting/walking meditation. This continues to support me personally and has informed my work over the years.
Thoughts are powerful. They shape our lives, impact our health, and play an important role in our ability to be creative. Thoughts impact the choices we make throughout our lives and can help us respond with resiliency when life challenges us.
I advocate living life with compassion. Change is hard. Most of us resist change for fear of what's unknown in the future. I understand it takes courage to reach out for help. If you wish to work with me, bring your grit, your honesty, but most importantly a strong commitment to yourself. I'm here to help.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.
Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Teri has been such a wonderful and much needed voice of reason. I am grateful we were connected.
I don’t think I could briefly describe what Teri has done for me. She has done so much for my confidence. She challenges me, and encourages me. I have taken parts of me “off the shelf” that I didn’t even know I had. I would have to write a few pages just on how talented she is.

Teri has been a great source of support and guidance for me!
Teri is a very good listener and she always summarizes what she thinks my emotions are when I am trying to work through something. I find it very helpful because sometimes all I have are stories and I’m not sure what the emotion is that I am feeling and it helps when she put it into words.
Teri is great at listening and helping me understand my issues better.

Teri is always incredible and amazing. There is not a session where I don’t walk away with new insight on myself and my situations. I always have something to process and work through before the next session. Each week I feel like a better version of myself and I look forward to working with her every week
Teri zeroed in right away on my issues and guided me compassionately and incisively on a path through my pain. She helped me to see my mental blockages and kindly assisted me through them. She especially aided me in finding a path forward to open up my own creativity. I highly recommend her.
Teri Nielsen is an amazing therapist. She is open and caring, and wants to help those in search of help on better help. I hope to find my way. I know my struggles and they’re what hold me down… I just need to believe in myself and I do that little bit day by day. And you gave me that slim oh hope that I can be independent and think for myself. Thank you Teri. You’re and been the best support in my corner when I’ve been dealing a lot with my family and my relationship.
Teri does a great job. Always checks in to see how I am doing. When we have live video sessions she is always giving me great advice on how to deal with what I am going through at the time. I would highly recommend her as a counselor! (insert thumbs up emoticon here). :-)

Teri is in my corner. That is what I needed most right now - someone to take my best interest into consideration, and listen to me and my feelings. Teri is a great listener. But she still holds me accountable for my own behavior and my own actions.
Teri is wonderful. She listens intently and takes care to ensure she understands how I’m feeling. She encourages me and helps me recognize the progress I’m making. Teri challenges me to reframe my thoughts and get to the root of things. I’m so grateful to have been matched with Teri.
After my first experience I kind of wished I gave that person a bad review , I gave by her a decent review because I knew how new she is but I should’ve been honest that she did not do much to help. I don’t even remember her name cause she did not leave an impact on me... And I tried again and got Teri. She’s been so helpful and understanding and actually engaging with me about my issues and allows this platform to be such a welcoming and safe place for my mental health.
Teri is a fantastic counselor and one that I appreciated her approach especially since she was very direct with me and noticed that I appreciate that sort of communication. She is very discerning and was of immense help.
I was matched with Teri and I have to say it was spot on. I'm looking forward to working with her as I move through this challenging time.
Teri has been exceptionally helpful guiding me to think critically and kindly about myself, helping me build my self worth and confidence.
I was matched with Teri and I am so thankful I was. She has been an exceptionally helpful therapist who met me where I was and helped support my well-being through a very difficult and challenging family trauma. She was able to pick up on seemingly small things and help me untangle the threads of my knotted up feelings. I strongly and enthusiastically recommend working with Teri.

Teri seems kind and caring. She has no pressure and seeks to meet you where you are at.

There are a ton of cliche terms that come to mind when describing people. I can’t help but to choose one of them in describing Teri. She embodies what it means to be “down to earth”. I truly did get BetterHelp. I had some very particular things I wanted in seeking a counselor that is right for me. Sure, not every counselor is right for a person but I would venture to say that Teri could connect in more ways than you may think of given the chance. Thank you BetterHelp and thank you my friend Teri.
Teri is so wonderful—she is a great listener, very warm and understanding, and is not afraid to jump right into tough topics. I’ve only had 3 sessions so far and I am already feeling an improvement!
Working with Teri during my post-natal period was a fantastic experience. She was able to create the space I needed to share my vulnerabilities and guided me to insights about myself that had enormous positive impact on my mindset and life. I would definitely work with her again on any future challenges and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, skilled professional.
We are just starting meetings - so far so good!
I really enjoy my therapy sessions with Teri Nielsen. She shows genuine concern, is gentle in her approach, and very helpful with giving me a different perspective on things. When you are in the thick of things it is hard to see a situation for what it is. She helps me with this without being invasive, which I appreciate very much. They say you have to find a therapist whom you "click" with. I definitely feel like this is the case with Teri Nielsen.
Teri has been wonderful and very responsive in helping me identify, understand, and combat the issues I’ve been facing.
