How Can I Help You?

Reaching out for counselling can feel daunting, especially if you are used to dealing with things on your own. My role is to offer you a safe, welcoming and supportive space where you can talk openly and honestly, without fear of judgement.

I will listen, not just to the words you say, but to what those words mean for you. I won't tell you what you should do or who you should be. Instead, I will walk alongside you, gently helping you explore what is happening in your life and supporting you in finding the way forward that feels right for you.

A Little About Me

This is probably the one place where I will talk at length about myself, because I think it is important that you know a little about the person you may choose to trust with your story.

I am a qualified member of both the BACP and NCPS in the UK, with many years of counselling experience. I have supported people through a wide range of difficult and deeply personal experiences, including grief and bereavement, anxiety, bullying, sexuality, Asperger's and neurodiversity, sex and pornography addiction, and experiences of sexual, physical, emotional, psychological and financial abuse.

I also recognise that people sometimes seek counselling because they are concerned about their own behaviour, including behaviour that may have hurt others, and genuinely want to understand themselves and make changes.

Sometimes there isn't a particular label or problem at all. You may simply be trying to understand yourself, come to terms with who you are, or find a way to feel more comfortable being you.

Experience, Acceptance and Understanding

I am over 60, and with age has come not only professional experience, but life experience too. I bring both into the counselling room while remembering that you are the most important person in our therapeutic relationship.

I am genuine and down-to-earth. What you see is what you get.

There is very little you could tell me that would shock me or make me think less of you. You do not need to pretend, perform or be the person you think I want you to be. You can simply come as you are.

I will treat you with dignity and respect, respect your personal boundaries within the professional boundaries of counselling, and offer you a compassionate and non-judgemental space in which to explore whatever is troubling you.

How We Will Work Together

My counselling approach is primarily Humanistic and Person-Centred, which means our work begins with you: your experiences, your feelings, your needs and what you want from counselling.

However, everyone is different, so I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Where it may be helpful, I can also draw upon my knowledge and skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other areas of my training.

Most importantly, we work together.

I am not here to take control of your life or give you a list of instructions. I am here to help you understand yourself more deeply, recognise choices and possibilities, and support you in making changes where you want them.

You Have Already Taken the First Step

Simply looking for a counsellor can take courage. By being here, you have already taken an important first step.

Whatever has brought you to counselling, you don't have to work through it entirely on your own. I can support you in exploring what is happening, understanding yourself and your experiences, and discovering what you need to move forward.

Sometimes that may mean making changes. Sometimes it may mean healing. And sometimes it may simply mean learning to accept yourself.

After all, we shouldn't have to change who we are simply to "fit in".

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
