More about Robert

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns you can’t seem to shift, even with insight or effort, you’re not alone. I work with people who are looking for depth, steadiness, and a thoughtful approach to change, rather than quick fixes or surface-level techniques.

I bring over 25 years of experience in the mental health field, including senior clinical roles within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). My work is grounded, compassionate, and insight-oriented, drawing primarily on Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Clients often describe me as calm, direct, and emotionally present. I aim to create a space that feels safe enough to explore what’s difficult, while remaining honest and purposeful about the work we’re doing together.

My Approach

At its heart, therapy is about being seen and understood, without judgment, pressure, or being “fixed.” Our work will move at a pace that feels manageable and respectful of your nervous system, shaped by your needs rather than a rigid formula.

You can expect a thoughtful, grounded therapeutic relationship, space to explore emotions, patterns, and inner conflicts safely, a balance of gentleness and depth without unnecessary intensity, and an approach that values both emotional experience and psychological clarity. I work particularly well with people who are reflective, sensitive, or who have spent a long time coping on their own.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a powerful way of understanding the different “parts” of ourselves, such as anxious, protective, critical, or wounded parts, that can pull us in different directions. Rather than trying to get rid of these parts, we work toward understanding their roles and building a more compassionate relationship with them.

Over time, this allows a calmer, steadier sense of Self-leadership to emerge, bringing more balance, clarity, and choice. IFS is especially helpful if you feel internally conflicted, notice repeating emotional or relational patterns, or want a deeper understanding of yourself rather than just coping strategies.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a well-established, evidence-based therapy used to process traumatic or distressing experiences that continue to affect the present. Using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, EMDR supports the brain’s natural capacity to integrate memories that may feel “stuck.”

I often use EMDR with clients experiencing trauma or adverse life experiences, anxiety, emotional reactivity or overwhelm, and unresolved grief or past events.

Experience & Background

My professional background includes decades of work across diverse clinical settings, including leading and supervising multidisciplinary teams within the NHS, developing integrative models of care for clinicians and frontline staff, and contributing to international discussions on psychological healing and meaning. This breadth of experience informs my understanding of both personal healing and the wider systems people live within.

A Personalised Process

Therapy is not about diagnosing what’s wrong with you. It’s about understanding your inner world, softening old protective patterns, and reconnecting with a sense of steadiness that may feel distant, but was never truly lost.

Some parts of us carry pain, others carry strength and wisdom, all of them belong. If you’re looking for a therapist who offers depth, clarity, and a calm, respectful presence, we may be a good fit.

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Robert is a considerate and professional guide for the journey I’m on & I appreciate his help and support

Reviewed December 2024

Rob is a great therapist! He led me to explore my inner parts and address underlying issues from childhood that have never been addressed in such a way with other therapists in the past. He takes into account the spiritual aspect of our journey through life that is often ignored in Western therapy. Highly recommend for anyone dealing with trauma or complex trauma.

Reviewed August 2024

I’m extremely happy with Robert as my therapist, this is the first time I’ve felt someone understands what need and what I have been through and why I react the way I do, I’m so glad I found him and I’m very confident he will be able to help me.

Robert is a wonderful therapist and shows that he really cares and really does listen to what you have to say. He's always on time and always keeps you in the loop if for some reason he can't make it. He's helped me a lot through my traumas and beliefs about myself and really helped my confidence going forward.

Reviewed January 2024

Like the lovely uncle you never had and open enough to explain something where it is needed and stay silent when that is the best way forward. Smart as a fox, kind and wise as an old elephant and as strong as a gorilla when you need holding… if anyone can this man can…

Reviewed November 2023

Robert is an awesome therapist. It’s been life changing.

Reviewed November 2023

Robert has been an exceptionally helpful and trusted therapist. I feel as I have grown so much as a person and I’m so much the better for my experience with him. I cannot recommend his services or demeanor, highly enough. He is kind, listens and gives thoughtful feedback, and gives concrete examples of steps to take to work through challenging points. It has been an absolute pleasure for me to spend time with Robert and my only sadness is that my sessions are coming to an end!

Reviewed November 2023

At first I didn't really believe that filling out the simplest questionnaire would in any way help me find the most suitable specialist. After getting matched with Robert, all my doubts were erased. He always listens, goes straight to the point, and understands what my problem is without any additional explanations. I usually have difficulties talking to people let alone opening my true feelings to them, but Robert somehow makes the conversation comfortable for me and I feel some relief after every session. I couldn't recommend this therapist enough

Reviewed November 2023

I’m so grateful to have found Rob here on betterhelp. After switching from another therapist whom didn’t really understand me or what my concerns were, I was a bit hopeless about being able to click with someone who’d be able not only to understand me perfectly, but also to give me really valuable advice and insights. Rob was able to deliver all of this and more, and I am extremely confident that my life will really improve on a deep fundamental level thanks to the work I am doing - and will keep on doing - here with him. His great experience in the field shines through in every session and he’s very knowledgeable about everything he talks about. Everything he talks about always makes perfect sense. I Would 100% recommend him. Very excited that I get to keep on working with him. Thanks again Rob!
