Welcome—I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Ammari Amani Edwards, LCSW, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York with over 12 years of experience providing mental health services in community, behavioral health, trauma-focused, and private practice settings. I earned my Master of Social Work from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work in 2016.
I support adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma and abuse, grief, relationship concerns, career challenges, burnout, self-esteem concerns, and major life transitions. My experience includes serving through the FDNY World Trade Center Counseling Services Unit, supporting first responders and individuals impacted by trauma. This work deepened my understanding of the emotional demands of high-stress professions and the importance of compassionate, individualized care.
As an Afro-Latina therapist and mom, I bring cultural awareness, lived experience, and appreciation for the demands of caregiving, family life, and balancing multiple responsibilities. I respect the ways identity, family, community, and personal history shape emotional well-being, while recognizing that every person’s experience is unique.
My approach is warm, collaborative, relational, and trauma-informed. I strive to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported in exploring difficult experiences and making meaningful changes.
My Approach
I tailor therapy to your needs, values, goals, and current circumstances. Depending on what feels most helpful, I integrate:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Explore unhelpful thought patterns and develop practical coping skills.
Psychodynamic Therapy: Understand how earlier experiences influence present emotions and relationships.
Solution-Focused and Strengths-Based Therapy: Build on your abilities and identify manageable steps toward your goals.
Mindfulness and Somatic Awareness: Notice emotions, physical sensations, and stress responses with greater awareness.
Narrative Therapy: Explore the stories you hold about yourself and make room for new perspectives.
Person-Centered Therapy and Self-Compassion: Support autonomy, self-understanding, and a kinder relationship with yourself.
Together, we can explore what brings you to therapy, recognize patterns contributing to distress, strengthen boundaries, and develop strategies for lasting growth.
If We Previously Connected Through BetterHelp
I wanted to share that I am no longer providing therapy through BetterHelp. If you are interested in continuing to work with me, you are welcome to reach out directly.
I am happy to talk with you about my current insurance and private-pay options, including whether your insurance may be used for services through one of the platforms I currently work with.
Insurance participation and coverage vary based on your specific plan, location, and benefits. We can discuss your options and determine the best next step.
Virtual Sessions and Fees
I provide virtual psychotherapy for clients physically located in New York during their appointments. Sessions generally last 45–50 minutes and may be scheduled weekly or biweekly based on your needs and availability.
Individual therapy: $60–$85 per session
Couples therapy: $80–$100 per session
Sliding-scale options: May be available based on circumstances and current availability
Insurance and Billing
I participate with multiple insurance plans through Headway, Alma, and Grow Therapy. Participation varies by specific plan and platform. Before beginning treatment, your eligibility, deductible, copay, and coinsurance should be verified.
To explore insurance options, please share your insurance company, specific plan name if known, and preferred platform. Verification does not guarantee payment. Any client responsibility is determined by your benefits, claim processing, and applicable billing agreements.
Please keep your insurance and payment information current. Outstanding client-responsible balances may lead to appointments being temporarily paused until payment or an approved arrangement is established. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please reach out so we can discuss available options.
Scheduling and Availability
My calendars across SimplePractice, Grow Therapy, Alma, and Headway are synced, allowing you to view available openings and request or book appointments through the platform where you receive services.
Please continue using the platform where your sessions are normally billed. If your next appointment is already scheduled, no changes are needed. You may also book an available opening between regular sessions when additional support is needed. If you cannot find a suitable time, please message me.

Cancellation and Attendance
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments are subject to a $75 fee, consistent with the applicable practice and platform policies.
I wait up to 15 minutes after the scheduled start time. After that, the appointment is considered missed. If you arrive within the grace period, your session will still end at its originally scheduled time. Repeated missed appointments may affect ongoing scheduling and may lead to case closure when clinically and administratively appropriate.
Reaching out for support can feel vulnerable. Whether you are overwhelmed, feeling stuck, or seeking deeper self-understanding, you are welcome here. I look forward to helping you build a life with greater clarity, connection, and self-compassion.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.
Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Ammari is amazing!!! She is down to earth, relatable and very knowledgeable. She has opened my horizon of understanding when it comes to understanding people in my life .
