Honestly couldn’t thank Stephen anymore after everything he’s done for me so far. I was so nervous to start therapy but Stephen put me at ease straight away and gave me the time to open up when I felt comfortable. I now look forward to my sessions and I’m so glad Stephen is the therapist that was chosen for me.

More about Stephen

  • 3 years' experience

  • BACP

I am credentialed in the UK with over 4 years of professional work experience. A member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues. I have also trained in trauma-informed therapy (not a qualified trauma therapist) and abuse, & coping with grief and loss. My work has also led me to work with people who have experienced bereavement which in itself, has in my experience, uncovered a number of difficulties that individuals were unaware of. Other clients that I have worked with include people with ADHD and autism and have offered a sanctuary where some clients have felt heard for the first time.

The modality I work within is person-centred therapy (PCT). This means that the focus is always on you and what you bring to the session and not for me to judge, inform of what I think you should do to overcome your difficulties, nor to offer advice, moreover to listen, support and walk with you on this journey. I understand other elements of modalities but I will use these sparingly as I am not fully trained in offerings such as CBT, but if it helps you, I may introduce certain elements of these.

Working together in a PCT manner, allows a therapeutic relationship to be formed where you are the driver and not the passenger. You will take me with you on your journey where we can work together and unpick the life events, feelings, thoughts or difficulties that have brought you to therapy. One of the main aims for me is to enhance your belief in you so that your autonomy may return and you can function in a way that perhaps you have not experienced in a while, and that you can decide that you no longer want/need therapy. It is my belief that our answers lie within us and that we may already know the answers, but we just cannot seem to find them at this stage. Working together, it is my hope that we will find a way forward for you to become your authentic self.

This may be achieved through hard work from yourself and input from me based on my experience and understanding of the theoretical aspects of the person-centred approach.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
