I’m a warm and caring therapist with 26 years of experience working with a diverse clientele. I have been licensed as an LPC for almost 15 years. Before that time I was a licensed addiction counselor working in inpatient treatment for 10 years starting in 2000. I specialize in women’s issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, assertive communication, anger & stress management, and relationships issues.
My focus in the therapeutic relationship is to assist clients in reaching their treatment goals and helping them find purpose and meaning in life. I believe knowledge is power, and that knowing oneself and gaining mastery over obstacles once thought insurmountable is very empowering. I believe in teaching emotional literacy in order to help ease feelings of distress or apathy and emptiness. I typically use cognitive behavioral interventions including psychoeducation, coping skills training, identifying triggers, journaling, thought records, cognitive distortion training, relapse prevention strategies, stress and anger management techniques, etc. I also approach therapy from a person-centered perspective where I recognize the client’s right to self determination and unconditional positive regard.
